Joyce's Topics
Poverty in the Pews (Faith-based Community). Very few people realize that poor people across America
have always been the backbone of the church. Rarely do we understand that most of the members of churches comprise the
working and middle class. This means that as society's economy weakens, and as people lose jobs homes and resources,
so goes the financial strength of the church. This rarely talked about subject presents an eye-opening
look at the fact that many people of faith are living beneath their privileges. As the subject of her doctoral dissertation,
Joyce's aim through this message is to help teach people that God really does want them to prosper in every area of their
life, and she provides practical steps to help make a change for those who desire to see a change.
Poverty in America (General) ...... Having
worked with the disadvantaged for most of her career, Dr. Joyce has a powerful challenge to the community, parents,
employers and above all .... persons experiencing poverty. She begins with the awareness factor and proceeds with personal
responsibility. Believing that every sector of society must assume some role in changing the things that weaken the
nation, she uncovers facts and suggestions that just might work for those willing to listen. Although
America is slowly beginning to see an upward spiral in its economy, the fact remains that previous conditions created a new
face of poverty. As an expert and highly sought after advocate for the poor, Joyce shares stimulating information on this
issue that is designed to not only identify those who comprise this new face of poverty, but also incite action for change.

Problems with America's Prison System. While
we can point to problems within the correctional system throughout America, Dr. Dorsey attempts to place a measure of responsibility
on parents, public officials and the community at large. We all, she insists, carry a large responsibility to assure
that once a person is released that society can enjoy the fruits of their contribution and feel that the experience of incarceration
was just and indeed beneficial. America's prison system, indeed, leaves much to be
desired. Joyce simultaneously shares poignant facts on the many problems that plague the system while offering suggested strategies
that will ultimately yield solutions for a system that is in dire need of repair.
Single Parent Adoption "Gains and Pains" It
was an article in a 1975 Ebony magazine entitled, “I didn't give him birth, I gave him life,” that served as the
clarion call for Joyce Dorsey to become an adoptive parent. By 1977, she had become the 4th Black single adoptive parent in
Atlanta. Some 30 years later, Joyce shares her experience in adoptive parenting from a single's perspective.
God's Will in our Lives: Biblical Applications to Daily
Principles. Many
Christians and Lay People think very little, or know for that matter what the will if God means. This question is both
individual and universal with sure eternal answers. Dr. Dorsey discusses God's will in most of her discourses and speeches
but makes it plain, according to the group she interacts with ....... Speaking to women,
youth, communities, and yes …. Men! Her audiences are as diverse as her topics.
